Travel Coordinators:

The IRS announced that the IRS standard mileage rate will increase from
50.0 cents per mile to 51.0 cents per mile, effective January 1, 2011.
This IRS rate is
set for a particular purpose: the deductibility of operating a vehicle
for business use.

State travel policy mirrors the federal rate, which is set by the
General
Services Administration (GSA) for employees of the Federal government.
If the GSA accepts the new IRS rate, our plan is to amend OAM
40.10.00.PO.
Appendix A. The following sentence would be edited to state:
"Effective 1/1/11, vehicle mileage is 51.0 cents per mile. The State
mileage rate mirrors the GSA federal rate and changes automatically when
the federal rate changes."

The State is not changing the private vehicle mileage reimbursement rate
until
we know what the GSA intends to do. At this point, the GSA hasn't
announced a rate for 2011. When the GSA announces a rate for 2011, we
will begin the process of changing State travel policy which includes
giving notice and seeking the approval of bargaining units. As always,
the State's intent is to maintain a single travel policy for all
employees.

We will keep you informed as new information becomes available.

Please let me know if you have questions. Thank you.
