Greetings West Coast Ocean Network,

Thanks to the hard work of Todd Hallenbeck, we have finalized a set of recommendations<http://network.westcoastoceans.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/RPB_Recommendations_2016.pdf> describing how the West Coast Ocean Data Portal plans to provide support to the West Coast Regional Planning Body (RPB)<http://www.westcoastmarineplanning.org/>.

We are starting a new chapter for the WCODP, both because of this focus on supporting the RPB, but also due to the departure of our fantastic Portal coordinator, Todd Hallenbeck, at the end of March.

Steve Steinberg and I, co-leads of the WCODP ACT, have stepped up our participation to take over the coordination tasks to assist the WCODP Working Groups as well as general coordination with key West Coast entities, such as the RPB and the West Coast Ocean Partnership. Allison Bailey, Sound GIS, will be focusing on technical tasks related to the RPB recommendations.

The RPB is currently moving forward to identify their highest priority issues for marine planning on the West Coast. They are also identifying sub-regions that will focus planning on relevant issues within the larger coast wide context. The WCODP will be directly supporting the West Coast Regional Planning Body (RPB)<http://www.westcoastmarineplanning.org/> as it moves forward to identify high priority marine planning issues and sub-regions to focus planning on key issues within the larger coast wide context. The WCODP will be coordinating closely with the RPB to help meet their needs for geospatial data and geo-visualization products.

Now is a great time for you to get involved to help highlight the valuable role of the Network and showcase the relevance and utility of the Portal to marine planning in the West Coast. We are currently focused on creating regional stories for the RPB that will present relevant data sets from the Portal in a user-friendly format. The stories we are developing are focused on changing ocean uses, changing ocean conditions, and existing marine planning efforts along the west coast. See our recommendations document<http://network.westcoastoceans.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/RPB_Recommendations_2016.pdf> for more information about our proposed work.

We are seeking help from individuals with both technical and non-technical backgrounds, with interest in the development of regional ocean stories. Please join us at this critical time for the WCODP and help craft these regional stories with us.

For more information please explore the website at network.westcoastoceans.org<http://network.westcoastoceans.org>, or contact one of the co-chairs.

Thanks,
Andy
