Forwarded or Joy McNeal.Dear Coordinators.. Hello from the OWCA Staff Training Subcommittee. We've had our first meeting and have come up with our first projectJ --which is to identify concerns of local agencies around training staff. From there we hope to find potential solutions. Our plan is to send out "questions to ponder" around concerns regarding staff training. The purpose of these questions is to get local agencies thinking about and identifying training issues. By having time to think about this ahead of time we hope to have a lively facilitated discussion around the identified training issues and needs and come up with potential solutions at the August OWCA meeting, where we will be breaking into groups by agency size. You can expect to receive these "questions to ponder" by July 15. This should give you some time to discuss issues with your staff and form ideas and identify concerns. BACKGROUND.Training issues, needs and concerns vary greatly depending on agency size, number of staff, geographic location, staff turnover, etc. Overall, training issues could be grouped into 3 tiers. Tier 1 * Large agencies: The largest agencies have a large number of staff to keep trained, frequent turnover or new hires, and a more established level of training infrastructure. Tier 2 * Mid-size agencies: Have a larger variation in number of staff and turnover. Training infrastructure may be less robust depending on the agency, but there are enough staff that new training initiatives can be challenging. Tier 3 * Small agencies: Have only 1 or 2 staff in each position, with little training infrastructure and more difficulty dealing with staff turnover. We are looking forward to seeing you August 3. OWCA Staff Training Committee. Joy McNeal
