Daily Smoke Management Forecast
Oregon Department of Agriculture
Smoke Management Program
Weather Outlook and Field Burning Advisory for Willamette Valley Growers and Fire Districts.
Issued:
Tuesday, July 24th, 2007 at 9:00am.
Burn Advisory:
Agricultural burning is allowed. Suggested burn times are from 11:00am until 7:00pm.
Preparatory burning is not allowed.
Propane flaming is allowed from 1:00pm until 7:00pm.
Stack burning is not allowed.
Weather Discussion:
The muggy air mass that has been over the region since the
middle of last week was replaced overnight by a more typical
summer-time marine air mass. Dew-point temperatures, which
have been running in the lower 60s, dropped into the upper
40s and low 50s this morning across Western Oregon. The
cold front responsible for this change moved through the
Willamette Valley Monday evening and was already in Western
Montana and Idaho this morning.
High pressure raqpidly built eastward across Oregon
overnight. The Northern Willamette Valley was mostly clear
by 8am, due to drying northerly winds. A fair amount of
low-clouds blanketed the central and southern valley this
morning, but the north winds will help clear the skies by
this afternoon.
No preparatory or stack burning is allowed today due to north
winds across the valley. Open field burning, the day after a
marine push, is seldom a good idea and unlikely today.
Surface Winds:
N 8 this morning, N 10-14 this afternoon.
Transport Winds:
NNE 15 this morning, NNE 15 this afternoon.
Atmospheric Ventilation Conditions:
Maximum mixing height today will be near 5000 feet. Ventilation index 75.
High Temperature:
Salem\'s high temperature today will be near 80.
Humidities:
Relative humidity drops to 50% by 1pm.
Minimum relative humidity will be near 35%.
Sunrise/Sunset:
Salem sunset tonight: 8:48pm; sunrise tomorrow: 5:50am.
Extended Outlook:
Computer models show a more typical, dry, summer-time weather
pattern throughout the extended outlook period. West-southwesterly
flow aloft will maintain onshore surface gradients, so
tempertures are not expected to be far from normal.
There is a slight chance of showers...mainly for the northern valley,
late Saturday into early Sunday, as a weak weather system moves across
Washington and Northern Oregon.
