Wow! Jasmine! What an amazing dream-come-true for your husband, and enormous changes ahead for you as well - I hope and expect they will be all good, and that your new adventures and home in North Carolina are delightful.

I have my fingers crossed that you stay in the library field, and preferably in a role where you can keep your nationwide connections and activities going. Thank you for all the time, care, and heart you have put into CSLP and into supporting your YSCON community. I hope you will keep us posted on where the journey takes you.

Onward!

warmly,
Janet

Tessa and Denise, thank you for your work on this!

I guess now is a good a time as any to let this group as a whole know that I will be leaving my position at the South Dakota State Library in mid/late August. My husband is going to be pursing his life-long dream of becoming a commercial pilot so we will be moving to North Carolina (likely the Raleigh-Durham area) early next September. Of course, I will be looking for a new job in a library as they are truly my passion, but I'm willing to work wherever I can to support us (I'll be the sole income earner while my husband is in flight school). Working with this incredibly diverse and amazingly talented group of people has been an honor.

I've only sent this to the YSCON group (+ Denise, who already knew) but I will be letting the CSLP State Reps know soon as well. I've let my supervisor know about this amazing opportunity and I will definitely be leaving some information for whoever my replacement will be.

Because I've known this was coming since last fall, I have volunteered South Dakota to host the November YSCON call, and I think the "new me" will be plenty settled in by then to host that.

In the meantime, I'll keep on trucking!

Best,

Hello Everyone!

You may or may not remember a few months ago when Denise Lyons (SC) and I messaged you all about a proposal that YALSA was putting together for an IMLS Leadership grant. Well guess what? It has been funded, and it benefits all state library agency youth services consultants! Basically, YALSA will being bringing us all together to talk (face to face!!!) and learn about continuing education and teen services.

You can read the full press release below or here: http://www.ala.org/yalsa/national-forum-transforming-teen-services-through-continuing-education<https://na01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ala.org%2Fyalsa%2Fnational-forum-transforming-teen-services-through-continuing-education&data=01%7C01%7Cjdwyer%40library.ohio.gov%7Cca16ae2410704e0dacd608d48c1571e2%7C50f8fcc494d84f0784eb36ed57c7c8a2%7C0&sdata=eZI%2FDKLezehv6MyB0NuAY4TTn1e79C%2BseY5v6L9XXlg%3D&reserved=0>

MOST IMPORTANTLY....As a part of this grant, YALSA will host a 1.5 day national forum immediately following the 2017 YA Services Symposium<https://na01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ala.org%2Fyalsa%2Fyasymposium&data=01%7C01%7Cjdwyer%40library.ohio.gov%7Cca16ae2410704e0dacd608d48c1571e2%7C50f8fcc494d84f0784eb36ed57c7c8a2%7C0&sdata=%2Fi7cUjedKHBlj7NAar%2BEpR7rJctZ4TfC5bXJhtyD5co%3D&reserved=0> in Louisville, KY. One representative from each state library agency will be invited to attend and participate. Representatives will be nominated by their state library agency's chief officer. If you are interested in attending, please let your chief officer know. The national forum is scheduled for Nov. 6 - 7, 2017 (all day the 6th, half day the 7th). Virtual participation opportunities will be available and open to everyone between Jan. and April 2018.

National Forum on Transforming Teen Services Through Continuing Education

YALSA in partnership with the Chief Officers of State Library Agencies<https://na01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.cosla.org%2F&data=01%7C01%7Cjdwyer%40library.ohio.gov%7Cca16ae2410704e0dacd608d48c1571e2%7C50f8fcc494d84f0784eb36ed57c7c8a2%7C0&sdata=6oj0ZP9ZWe3Q6z%2F11QPFODRXFDIhB8T3sVna%2BTiwoSc%3D&reserved=0> (COSLA) is hosting a year-long National Forum on Transforming Teen Services Through Continuing Education from June 1, 2017 through May 31, 2018. This effort brings together state library agency (SLA) youth consultants with thought leaders in libraries, youth development, afterschool programming, professional development, and more. The Forum will leverage both in-person and virtual discussions, and will lead to the publication of a report outlining priorities in continuing education in teen services in public libraries. This project is supported by a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services<https://na01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.imls.gov%2F&data=01%7C01%7Cjdwyer%40library.ohio.gov%7Cca16ae2410704e0dacd608d48c1571e2%7C50f8fcc494d84f0784eb36ed57c7c8a2%7C0&sdata=gJx%2FtaZ%2BWRodAzmLKj6JTeqM%2BDOLnE82R3dwD8IyyXY%3D&reserved=0> (IMLS). While some schools of library and information science are looking at how to re-imagine their curricula for pre-service library staff, it is also essential that at the same time there is a united effort to develop strategic directions for cultivating the skills of those already working in the field. SLA staff play a critical leadership role in the development and delivery of library-related continuing education (CE) to front line library staff. By gathering together a youth services representative from each of the 50 SLAs and other key stakeholders to inform the development of a report that sets a national agenda on continuing education for teen services, YALSA and COSLA will achieve the first step toward developing a coordinated, efficient, and effective process for transforming teen services throughout the U.S., so that teen programs and services enhance civic and cultural engagement, facilitate lifelong learning, promote digital inclusion, and support economic vitality.
