Hi Krista,

I’ve been working with Jackson here in Missouri, because we are going to bring a Girls Who Code webinar to Missouri library staff.

I initially contacted him to ask him to bid on a Code at the Library webinar, and as a result, he offered to instead hold a Girls Who Code webinar for free. After looking into the program further, we decided this was definitely a resource we wanted our library staff to know about, and we are moving forward with that project.

My guess is that after speaking with me about this project, he then realized this might be of interest to other State Libraries.

So far, he’s enthusiastic and easy to work with. We’re going to host the webinar on our platform and archive it, so that Missouri library staff know more about Girls Who Code and how they can use the free resources and start their own Girls Who Code clubs.

If anyone would like to attend our webinar to hear more, I can get that out to you. We are delaying on the project until the end of November, due to scheduling, and so that we can hold Code at Your Library first.

Basically, they just want to get the message and resources out, so if other states want to hold a Girls Who Code webinar, my guess is they would be very happy to do that…and for free.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks,
Becky

Good Afternoon All,

Has anyone else received this solicitation? I’m all in support of its message, just surprised by the method of contact and wondered if anyone else had been partnering and what that looks like.

Thanks,
~Krista

Dear Kentucky Department for Libraries and Archive,

Following up to see if you have 15 minutes to connect to discuss your goals for computer science education in Kentucky and how our programs can complement those goals.

In just 5 years, Girls Who Code<https://girlswhocode.com/> has taught 40,000 middle and high school girls across all 50 states to code. To put that in perspective, only 10,000 girls graduate every year with Computer Science degrees. That means in 5 short years, we’ve quadrupled the pipeline.

By the end of the 2017-2018 academic year, we hope to teach a total of 100,000 girls to code and would love to partner with Kentucky Department for Libraries and Archive to bring free computer science opportunities to middle and high school girls in your community.

Partnership benefits include:
· 120+ hours of curriculum, activity sets, and an online learning management system
· Recruitment materials, including student and volunteer flyers
· Program management support, including field trip and grant opportunities
· Club Facilitator trainings, resources and real-time support
· Access to Girls Who Code’s network of Clubs across the US through virtual and in-person meet-ups
Please let me know if you have any questions or if any other information would be helpful.

I look forward to hearing from you!

Jackson

Dear Kentucky Department for Libraries and Archives,

My name is Jackson Thomas and I am a Community Partner Manager at Girls Who Code<http://girlswhocode.com/>, the national non-profit dedicated to closing the gender gap in technology.

Technology is changing everything about the way we live and work. Computing skills are the most sought-after in the US job market, with demand growing 3X the national average — but girls across the US are being left behind. Today, less than a quarter of computing jobs are held by women, and that number is declining.

Our organization is working to reverse the decline. Last year, we reached 40,000 girls in all 50 states and we hope to reach 100,000 by the end of 2018 through our Clubs Program<http://www.girlswhocode.com/clubs>. We would love to work with the Kentucky Department for Libraries and Archives, to bring Clubs to 6-12 grade girls in Kentucky!

Our Clubs<http://www.girlswhocode.com/Clubs> are free after-school programs for 6-12th grade girls to use computer science to impact their community and join our sisterhood of supportive peers and role models. They can be hosted in schools, universities, libraries, community centers, faith-based organizations, or nonprofits. There's ZERO fee to start a Club.

Please let me know if you have 15 minutes in the next two weeks to connect to discuss your goals for computer science education in Kentucky and how our programs can complement those goals.

Regards,

Jackson
