Subject: Read a Building Like a Book! New National Park Service Toolkit for Librarians

Good afternoon, Kentucky Certified Local Governments!

As a partner with our office and the National Park Service, I am pleased to share a new library resource. As CLGs,you all have significant historic resources, so please bring this program to the attention of your local libraries!

This toolkit, which includes a template and instructions to adapt local resources for a library storytime, can be used to bring history alive in your own backyards! And please let me know if your library makes good use of it! I would love to be able to share that with NPS and on social media.

Have a great week!

New this fall at the National Park Service online, a librarian resource:
Teaching with Historic Places in Libraries<https://www.nps.gov/subjects/teachingwithhistoricplaces/twhp-in-libraries.htm>

<https://www.nps.gov/subjects/teachingwithhistoricplaces/twhp-in-libraries.htm>
 <https://www.nps.gov/subjects/teachingwithhistoricplaces/twhp-in-libraries.htm>
 <https://www.nps.gov/subjects/teachingwithhistoricplaces/twhp-in-libraries.htm>
The Teaching with Historic Places hub offers tips, guides, and packaged content for crafting memorable learning experiences with National Park Service resources. There is no charge and no local Park is required to take advantage.<https://www.nps.gov/subjects/teachingwithhistoricplaces/twhp-in-libraries.htm>
 <https://www.nps.gov/subjects/teachingwithhistoricplaces/twhp-in-libraries.htm>
Discover the new Storytime with Historic Places model. The website includes a template and instructions to feature historic places in storytime programs. Download a sample SwHP, written by a school librarian who used a national headquarters for the 20th century women's movement to create a storytime about civics and civil rights. The sample storytime comes with a booklist, materials, prompts, and fun activity.<https://www.nps.gov/subjects/teachingwithhistoricplaces/twhp-in-libraries.htm>

The National Park Service supports libraries and librarians in-person and online. If a library is too far from a Park or the park can't send a Ranger, the wide range of digital assets can help spark library patrons' curiosity and their imaginations. <https://www.nps.gov/subjects/teachingwithhistoricplaces/twhp-in-libraries.htm>
