[yscon] Heads Up: End of Summer Survey about Use/Value of CSLP Materials and Membership

Hi, Tessa:
Is there any way the survey can be administered in the fall instead of end of summer? I know I'm not the only one who has each library fill out a state-level summer reading report at the end of the summer (many states call theirs a "survey" rather than a report), and I think folks in the libraries are going to get confused. They already confuse what we do for them at the state level with CSLP, so if two things are floating around at the same time I can see them thinking they filled out my report when they actually filled out CSLP's survey. We have so many new folks now that I'm not sure they will be able to tell the difference. Idaho's report is due September 15. Not sure about when other states have their due dates. Also thinking "survey fatigue."

Please know that I support the gathering of data from CSLP and see the benefits of collecting it; just hoping it could be sent out later...

Subject: [yscon] Heads Up: End of Summer Survey about Use/Value of CSLP Materials and Membership
Importance: High

*apologies for duplicate messages*

Dear State Youth Services Consultants and/or CSLP State* Reps,

The CSLP Statistics Committee wants to give you a heads up about a survey that will be issued at the end of Summer 2018.

Specifically:

  * The audience for the survey is public library staff who use (or elect not to use) CSLP materials through membership in CSLP; NOT state reps-we want input of people "in the field"
  * The survey will be conducted online; all we ask is for you to share the link and encourage library staff in your state to participate
  * The survey can be shared along with or separate from any existing end-of-summer surveys that you or your state conduct
  * Survey responses will be used, in addition to future focus group and other input solicitations, to inform recommendations from the CSLP Statistics Committee to the CSLP Board regarding membership and product value
  * Ideally, survey results will indicate state and national patterns. The committee will share state-specific data with yscon/state reps by request.

Wondering from where this initiative came? Please review the "Going Forward" section of our committee's report at the CSLP Annual Meeting in April 2018, below my signature.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me directly.

Thanks in advance for your cooperation!

Statistics Committee Report
CSLP Annual Meeting 2018

>From the final section:

Going Forward
Statistics and summer library programs are complicated, and this committee is diligently making slow and steady progress. From our work this past year, we see all of these pieces feeding into a larger and critical conversation about the membership structure and costs. If LSTA funds go away, or if individual libraries casually flip from CSLP to iRead simply based on theme or cost, it behooves us to better examine the direct and indirect benefits of membership to groups and individuals. These issues also related to the Board's request for a more formal examination of how the manual is used and valued, which is a task yet-to-be taken on by this committee. Our committee is currently considering if it is time to develop, or redevelop, a formal "how do you use CSLP" survey?
