Hi Stephanie,
I do not have a statewide SRP committee, but I do have a Youth Services Advisory Council<http://www.olis.ri.gov/youth/advisorycouncil.php> that is comprised of public children's and teen librarians. They select the slate of educators/presenters for the SRP (I run an annual performers showcase and booking meeting, and my agency pays for each library to have one children's and one teen performer) and provide input on what they need regarding tools, training, and support for SRP. It's a seven member committee with a two year term that meets 3-4 times Sept. - May. We also communicate often through email and Google docs. SRP isn't the council's sole focus as they also advise on continuing education and other timely issues, but SRP is a large piece of what they do.

Subject: [EXTERNAL] : [yscon] Summer Reading Committees

Hi Everyone,

I missed the monthly meeting yesterday, but just read over the notes. It seems like a lot of you hold trainings, but I am curious to learn more about statewide Summer Reading Committees. Hoping to have something up and running for next year. I have reached out to a few people about this topics but have not received anything back - probably because they're busy with last minute summer maneuvering!

I have some thoughts on what I want to create, but still have some questions for those of you who have a statewide Summer Reading Committee:

  1. Is your committee a partnership with your state association?
  2. What is the mission or work of the group?
  3. How many people are on the committee?
  4. How often do you meet?

Thanks for your help,
