[yscon] YSCON Listserve Moving Update

Thanks, Ohio! Go, Janet!

Just a little history of this listserv...
I don't remember exactly when it was started, but at least 20+ years ago. Initially, it was supposed to be part of ALA's listservs. That meant that one had to be a member of ALA and ASCLA to gain access. We felt that it was important to have a good way for all the state youth services consultants to communicate with each other, whether they could afford to be ALA members or not. Therefore, we looked for other options. (Renegades that we are...) I don't remember who the youth consultant was in North Carolina at that point but they volunteered the services of the State Library of North Carolina to host. (It may have been Cal Shepherd.) Anyway, North Carolina hosted the listserv until Oregon took over a few years ago.

I don't know if ALA even knows that this listserv functions outside of ALA's oversight. Technically, YSCON is part of ALA/ASCLA and does meet officially at ALA conferences. But we do gather unofficially in other places too. BTW, this listserv is different from CSLP's State Rep list.

Subject: [yscon] YSCON Listserve Moving Update

Hello everyone,

Ohio has volunteered to take on the care and feeding of the YSCON listserve! Woo-hoo! Are there any other states who are madly eager to take this on? If so, maybe Ohio can take a turn for a few years and then rotate it out so we share the responsibility over time.

I really appreciate the folks who checked in with their IT staff about hosting this. And many thanks to Janet in Ohio for being excited to take this project! I'm heading out to site visits the rest of this week but I'll check in early next week on what the transition process will look like and we'll keep y'all updated.

Happy Thursday,

Greta B
