Dear Colleagues,
SPRC & AFSP are pleased to release the Online Registry of
Evidence-Based Practices in Suicide Prevention. The text of our press
release follows:
SPRC & AFSP Release the Online Registry of Evidence-Based Practices in
Suicide Prevention
The Suicide Prevention Resource Center (SPRC) and The American
Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) have completed development of
an online registry of evidence-based suicide prevention programs. The
registry of 14 programs represents an initial step in the collection and
promotion of evidence-based suicide prevention programs and accomplishes
Objective 10.3 of the National Strategy for Suicide Prevention.
Decision-makers can use the registry as a source of objective and
reliable information as they select programs to implement.
The registry is part of the Evidence-Based Practices Program (EBPP),
which launched last spring. The goals of EBPP were to review evaluations
of suicide prevention programs and classify them according to their
demonstrated evidence.
Over the past year, a search was conducted for relevant evaluations of
suicide prevention programs. Experts then reviewed each evaluation
based on criteria developed by SPRC. Programs were classified as
Effective or Promising, depending on the strength of each program's
evaluation. Additional programs were included in the registry without
classification if they were theoretically sound but not yet sufficiently
evaluated.
Future reviews of suicide prevention programs will be conducted as part
of
The National Registry of Evidence-Based Programs and Practices (NREPP),
under the direction of the Science to Service Office, Substance Abuse
and
Mental Health Services Administration. SPRC and AFSP will support NREPP
by helping prepare program data for review.
The online registry of evidence-based suicide prevention programs is
available on the SPRC website at
