Dear YSP Networkers,
Below is a flyer about the Oregon Safe Schools and Communities Coalition's
(OSSCC) first-ever fundraising event. We are excited about the event and
believe we have a great lineup of musical and literary talent for your
entertainment on May 16. OSSCC works to create safe schools and communities
where every family can belong, every educator can teach, and every child can
learn regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. The mission of
OSSCC supports Strategy #4 (Reduce harassment in schools and communities) of
the Oregon Youth Suicide Prevention Plan. The focus of this work is
primarily in Oregon, but support is also provided to schools and communities
in SW Washington because of its proximity to the Portland area.
I am a board member with OSSCC and have served on the board for several
years. We conduct an annual statewide training event for youth/adult teams
and also organize an annual statewide Gay-Straight Alliance conference. In
addition, other OSSCC services include a speaker's bureau and advocacy for
LGBT youth, families, and faculty. The two annual events are supported by
grants from Equity Foundation and from the Pride Foundation, but additional
income helps OSSCC develop new programs, provide more outreach to youth and
families, improve the organizational website, and many other activities that
require funds to help our all-volunteer organization achieve its mission.
I'm asking for your support in one of the following ways to help us make our
first-ever fundraising event a rousing success:
Option 1: buy a ticket and support the event financially even if you can't
be there.
Option 2: buy a ticket and attend the event (better than above because we
would like to have you join us for the fun!)
Option 3: buy yourself a ticket and attend AND help us sell tickets to
others you know who might contribute and/or attend the event (best option
for fundraising!!)
So....let me know how you can best support this fun event. Just me know if
you will buy a ticket and how many additional tickets you might be able to
sell (if any), and I will mail ticket(s) to you (please include mailing
address!). Then, you can send me a check made out to OSSCC or bring payment
for your ticket(s) to the door at the event on May 16. FYI: OSSCC is an
umbrella organization under the 501(c)3 non-profit status of the Rural
Organizing Project so your contribution is tax deductible!
Please join us for a fun evening of great entertainment and help make our
schools and communities safer for all!
