[Answerland] Question to answer: looking for NPR feature

Hello Answerlanders,

A patron is looking for our help:

"looking for the name of a teacher featured on NPR in the last month. this teacher was from an eastern block (krysikistahn?) country. he taught in a tiny school and his students became scientists, engineers, mathematicians. i think it was an obituaty and i think he was over 100 years old. i have scoured the internets with no success. any help would be appreciated. thank you."
