Good afternoon,

Another short update for today! Please keep letting us know how we can assist you, and if there are any particular topics or questions you'd like to be addressed.

Eligibility of Medical Equipment:  There have been lots of questions about the eligibility of equipment purchases, keep them coming!  As per FP 104-010-04 (attached), Public Assistance Medical Care Policy for COVID-19, specialized medical equipment purchases that are made prudently, reasonably, and necessary to respond to COVID-19 may be eligible for reimbursement. The applicant should document why the equipment is necessary and how it alleviates or eliminates an immediate threat of infection of medical staff along with provide the needed support and protection for patients. Equipment purchases are subject to disposition requirements as described in the Public Assistance Program and Policy Guide at 29. This is in alignment with CDC guidance of having trained, equipped and capable practices needed in preventing the spread of COVID-19 within medical care facilities. Here are some additional specific details:

ELIGIBLE MEDICAL CARE WORK AND COSTS BY FACILITY TYPE
b. Purchase, lease, and delivery of specialized medical equipment necessary to
respond to COVID-19 (equipment purchases are subject to disposition
requirements);
c. Purchase and delivery of PPE, durable medical equipment, and consumable medical
supplies necessary to respond to COVID-19 (supply purchases are subject to
disposition requirements);
i. This includes the costs of eligible SLTT government Applicants providing PPE
to any public or private medical care facility that treats COVID-19 patients.


CDC Guidance

All U.S. hospitals should be prepared for the possible arrival of patients with COVID-19. All hospitals should ensure their staff are trained, equipped and capable of practices needed to: (1) Prevent the spread of COVID-19 within the facility; (2) Promptly identify and isolate patients with possible COVID-19 and inform the correct facility staff and public health authorities; (3) Care for a limited number of patients with confirmed or suspected COVID-19 as part of routine operations; (4) Potentially care for a larger number of patients in the context of an escalating outbreak while maintaining adequate care for other patients; (5) Monitor and manage any healthcare personnel that might be exposed to COVID-19; and (6) Communicate effectively within the facility and plan for appropriate external communication related to COVID-19.
