RE: Request for Reading Achievement Standards Panel Participants
ODE requests nominations of qualified participants for a Reading Achievement Standards Panel. This January, ODE staff will work with stakeholders from around the state to review Oregon's Reading Achievement Standards for Grades 3-8 and High School in preparation for adopting revised cut scores for Oregon's statewide Reading assessment. This work corresponds to recent work completed in the area of mathematics, where adjustments to achievement standards were made to produce results in lower grades that are more predictive of student success in meeting the high school achievement standards. Proposed changes resulting from this event would be presented to the state board as recommendations for implementation during the 2011-2012 school year. You may nominate yourself and you may nominate multiple people.
ODE is seeking a diverse panel of participants from around the state including:
*
Educators (teachers, principals, superintendents, etc) with extensive experience with K-12 or post-secondary instruction including substantial knowledge of Oregon's assessments and content standards
* Parents and community members with a solid understanding of the interdependence of instruction, content standards, and assessment
To make a nomination, please complete the nomination form available on the ODE website at: http://www.ode.state.or.us/wma/teachlearn/subjects/english/reading/assessment/reading-standardssetting-nomination-form.doc. This form must be submitted by email by November 29, 2010.
If you have questions about the Reading Achievement Standards Panel, please contact Ken Hermens at Ken.Hermens at state.or.us<mailto:Ken.Hermens at state.or.us>.
