Literacy Framework Widely Distributed
One copy of the Oregon K-12 Literacy Framework<http://www.ode.state.or.us/search/page/?id=2568>, adopted by the State Board in December 2009, was mailed to every school in October. Several copies were mailed to ESDs, school districts, and colleges of education. The production of these materials was funded with federal literacy dollars.
Additional copies of the Framework are not available from ODE; however, the Framework (with table of contents) can be downloaded at http://www.ode.state.or.us/search/page/?id=2987 from the Menu on the right side of the page. For additional information, please contact LiteracyFramework at state.or.us<mailto:LiteracyFramework at state.or.us>.
Literacy Framework DVDs Sent to Leaders and Policymakers
All state, district, and school education leaders and policymakers received an Oregon K-12 Literacy Framework DVD and memo from Superintendent Castillo in October. The DVD includes two videos: "Moving Reading Forward," (9 minutes) and "Pathway to Reading" (20 minutes). The production of these materials was funded with federal literacy dollars.
District and school leaders are encouraged to use the videos to provide professional development to staff on using a comprehensive reading model. Moving reading forward in Oregon means that all students will have the reading skills to do well early in school and throughout school, earn an Oregon Diploma, and succeed after high school. K-12 planning is needed to make this happen. The videos and online Oregon K-12 Literacy Framework<http://www.ode.state.or.us/search/page/?id=2568> provide guidance for both planning and implementation. The support of policymakers will increase the likelihood of early success. For additional information, please contact LiteracyFramework at state.or.us<mailto:LiteracyFramework at state.or.us>.
