[Domestic Violence issues]

Good Morning!

Some of the most frequent questions I receive are about FAPA (Restraining) orders-examples:

"If a Restraining Order was issued in Marion county, is it valid in other Oregon counties?" (Answer: YES! Violation of Restraining Orders can be filed and prosecuted either in the county where the Restraining Order was issued OR where the violation occurred.)

"Are Restraining Orders from other states valid in Oregon?" (Answer: YES!  In most cases, "Foreign Restraining Orders" are enforceable as Oregon orders as soon as a person who has a such an order comes into our state.)

I know FAPA information is sometimes difficult to remember and/or keep straight; the statutes relating to these orders are in multiple chapters of our Oregon Revised Code book(s) and they cross-reference each other or different statutes all together.

In an effort to simplify things and to answer some of the more common questions, I created a quick "FAQ" sheet which I've attached to this email.
