*Abstract: *

Altavian and U.S. Imaging recently flew a sand mine operation using both an
Optech Orion M300 LiDAR system on a manned Cessan T210 aircraft and using
Altavian's Nova F6500 small, hand-launched, semi-autonomous aircraft. The
two companies partnered in order to fly the site on the same day, and to
determine whether the auto-correlated elevation model derived from the
aerial imagery would be sufficient for conducting the airborne volumetric
surveys typically reserved for using manned airborne LiDAR. The speakers
will discuss the approach to this project, flight planning, ground control,
and methods to compare the two datasets.

*Bio:*

*Apostolos "Tolee" Mamatas* holds a bachelor's degree in geomatics and a
master's in electrical engineering, both from the university of Florida. He
has a broad base of experience both in airborne LIDAR surveying and data
processing and in system design and integration. Previous experience
includes work in military contracting and government-sponsored research. He
heads payload design at Altavian, where his focus has been to bring
advanced systems to market in smaller and more cost-effective unmanned
systems for small-scale aerial surveying.

*Craig Emrick* is a native Floridian and has been involved in surveying
since 1993 in both the public and private sectors statewide. A 2002
graduate of the University of Florida’s Geomatics Program, he is a licensed
surveyor in the States of Florida and Alabama. He currently manages the
planning, acquisition and processing of LiDAR and digital imagery at U.S.
Imaging, Inc.

*Brian Murphy *is a Gainesville, FL native and is a graduate from the
University of Florida holding degrees in Environmental Management Sciences
and a Masters Degree in Urban and Regional Planning. Brian is also a
Certified Photogrammetrist, coming from over 12 years in the industry with
a background in GIS, Lecia ADS40 processing, and Optech Gemini LiDAR
processing. He currently serves as Altavian's Vice President of Business
Development, and is Past President of the Florida Region of ASPRS and is
the current Chair of the ASPRS Sustaining Members Council.
