[gis_info] Helping Out with PNW Wildfires

While I completely understand people's good intentions with wanting to
help with the effort to map wildfires, as a recently retired wildland GIS
specialist I can tell you it's a highly specialized task that follows
strict standard operating procedures. There is no time on an incident to
train anyone from scratch, and there is a pool of well-qualified GIS
Specialists among the agencies, as well as trainees who have learned the
basics before fire season starts. If you are wanting to contribute your
GIS skills right now, I would recommend jumping on volunteer and
crowdsourcing opportunities with GIS Corps. I've seen a few come up for
Hurricane Harvey this week. It's probably better if the agencies managing
wildfires are not inundated with offers of well-meaning help that they
don't need.

Thanks for your willingness to help!
