2.  Environmental Health at Home - OSU workshops
Do you or your staff get questions about lead, mold, pesticides,
asthma, safe toys or other common environmental health issues in homes? 
Would you like to learn more about these issues and be able to provide
more information to your clients?  If so, please consider attending an
EH at Home workshop in your area.

 EH at Home is a new Oregon State University partnership between the
Extension Service and the Environmental Health Sciences Center that
provides an educational forum for individuals and professionals who have
an interest in environmental health in the home. EH at Home will focus on
common environmental health concerns found in residential settings.
 
OSU Faculty will present the latest research findings on key
environmental health issues found in homes.  Through engaging, hands-on
activities participants will be able to recognize common problems,
identify risk reduction strategies, and know when to use specialists for
further assistance. These workshops will focus on practical, low- and
no-cost solutions to many common environmental health issues in the
home.
 
Dates and Locations:
Monday, April 12: Salem
Tuesday, April 20: Eugene
Wednesday, May 5: Oregon City
Wednesday, May 19: Portland
Time: All workshops are 10:30 AM * 2:30 PM and include lunch.
Cost: FREE!

2) Chemicals in the Diet
3) Indoor Air Quality 
4) Pesticides & Alternatives for Pest Control
5) Healthy Kids and Safe Toys

3.  OregonYouth Photo Contest - Deadline March 15
As part of National Public Health Week (April 5-9, 2010), Community
Health Priorities, a project of the Northwest Health Foundation, is
pleased to sponsor the 2010 Oregon Youth Photo Contest. Participation is
open to any youth in Oregon, aged 12 to 18 years old. Deadline for
submission is March 15, 2010. First ($300), Second ($200) and Third
($100) prizes will be awarded. If you know a young photographer who
might be interested, please send him or her this link for more

4.  Making Effective Presentations (online training modules) (

The Center for Healthy Aging has developed interactive training modules
on evidence-based health promotion for older adults, designed for
aging-services providers, but also useful for those wo
rking in public
health, human services, and health promotion. Each module includes
information on tailoring presentations to the audience, organizing flow
and themes, developing attractive slides with graphics, describing the
key components and strategies of programs, and presenting program data.
The modules include slides from Administration on Aging (AoA) projects,
downloadable templates, and resources to help plan and deliver
presentations to both scientific and community audiences. 
 
5.  27th Annual Oregon Epidemiologists' Meeting

General Information: The Annual Oregon Epidemiologists' Meeting
(OR-Epi) where Oregon's public health professionals meet and exchange
information on current disease issues and trends, is being held at the
Riverhouse Conference Center in Bend, May 26-28, 2010. The opening
session begins at 1:00 p.m., Wed., May 26th. The meeting concludes at
noon, Fri. May 28th. The agenda is under development.
There will be three pre-conference meetings before OR-Epi: the Health
Officers' Caucus, CD 101 and CD 303. All pre-conference meetings will
take place from 8:00 a.m. to 12:45 p.m., Wednesday May 26, 2010.

10.  IHA Health Literacy Conference 
 Greetings! The HLM meeting will be on Wednesday, May 5, 2010, just
before the beginning of the IHA Health Literacy Conference on May 6-7.
This Health Literacy Missouri meeting is open to anyone interested in
finding out about formation of state-level health literacy coalitions
