President Obama talked in his State of the Union address about "investments" in our future. No matter what your opinion is on our government making investments in these tight times, economists agree on a rational way for individuals to make financial decisions. We are tempted to save money, keeping our spending to a minimum, and yet we know we need to spend to advance our skills and promote our services. Smart people do both. It's wise to minimize frivolous spending and maximize investments in things that will pay off with increased income in the next few months and years.
