Support and Coordination Intern for Environmental Health Education
Dates: September 2011 - March 2012 
Time Commitment: 10-15 hours per week 
Location: Portland, Oregon 
Application Deadline: August 15, 2011
Description: The planning committee for the 4th Annual Northwest Environmental Health Conference is currently seeking a part-time volunteer to work as a Support and Coordination Intern for the 4th Annual Northwest Environmental Health Conference to be held in February 2012.
In this role, the volunteer will have the following general responsibilities:
Support a multi-organizational events committee, including 
Development of sponsors; 
Development and circulation of promotional materials; 
Review and disposition of speakers' proposals, poster session proposals, exhibitors and session moderators; 
Event logistics and agenda; 
Media outreach; 
Events programs and packets 
Registration 
Evaluation and wrap-up activities

Preferred qualifications:Good oral and written communication skills; good organizational skills and attention to detail; interest in environmental health or related areas. 
Benefits: opportunities to observe, participate and network in a variety of collaborating nongovernmental, public and educational institutions; increased knowledge or issues and policies in environmental health. 
About the conference: The Fourth Annual Northwest Environmental Health Conference, February 2012 is a one-day event targeted to health professionals, nonprofit and governmental stakeholders. The first conference, in February 2009, featured presentations on emerging issues such as the health impacts of global climate change, and phthalates and other chemicals of concerns in our healthcare settings, and panel presentations on public health impact assessments, environmental justice, and the role of health providers, practitioners, community health workers, and other health colleagues in energy and chemical policy reform in the Pacific Northwest. This event is a collaborative effort of Josiah Hill III Clinic, Oregon Environmental Council, PSR, Health Care Without Harm, and the Oregon Environmental Public Health Tracking Program.
