 Hello,

As a member of the Coalition of National Health Education Organizations
(CNHEO), you recognize the importance of up-to-date health education
competencies that undergird

our systems of professional preparation, professional development, and
credentialing.

In keeping with best practices for certification, the National Commission
for Health Education Credentialing. Inc. (NCHEC) and the Society for Public
Health Education (SOPHE) have launched the next *Health Education
Specialist Practice Analysis (HESPA).* Leading this research is Pro Exam, a
professional examination services firm contracted by NCHEC.

The purpose of the HESPA is to further validate the contemporary practice
of entry- and advanced-level health education specialists and further shape
the blueprint for their credentialing. Drs. Jim McKenzie and Dixie Dennis
are leading the research, with extensive input from a 12-member Advisory
Committee that began meeting earlier this year. It is anticipated that the
HESPA data will be collected and analyzed in 2014 and the results released
in 2015.

*We are requesting your assistance to encourage your members to participate
in the national HESPA survey. Registrations are open until February 21,
2014.* Volunteer health education specialists are needed from a variety of
work settings and experience levels to ensure our results are
representative. We are asking for your cooperation to publicize the survey
to your members in one or more of the following ways:

1. Send email or newsletter announcements to your members, alerting
and encouraging them to participate in the survey. We are enclosing sample
email text below that you may use/adapt. If possible, we would appreciate
several email alerts throughout the survey period.

*Calling all health education specialists: CHES/ MCHES and non certified!*

The Health Education Specialist Practice Analysis (HESPA) is being conducted to
re-validate the contemporary practice of entry-level and advanced-level
health education specialists and to re-define core knowledge and
competencies for health education practice. *This study is designed to meet
recommendations from the Institute for Credentialing Excellence (ICE) and
to maintain National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA)
accreditation. Study sponsors are the National Commission for Health
Education Credentialing, Inc. (NCHEC) and the Society for Public Health
Education (SOPHE. The results of the study will be used to update the
**Framework
for Health Education Specialists, **to ensure that the CHES and MCHES exams
reflect the most current and comprehensive state of the profession, and may
be used to inform training programs and professional development
initiatives.*

We need to hear from a wide spectrum of health educators practicing in all
settings and regions of the country. Your input is vital in charting the
future of the health education profession. Let your voice be heard by
taking some time to sign up online to participate in the survey today!
