Hello Coordinators,

I'd like to pass along two events that may be of interest to you.  

One is the Arthritis Foundation Exercise Program instructor training that will be held October 22 in Salem.  We are also planning one in the Roseburg area in Spring 2012.  Please see the attached flyer for more information and contact me at April.l.rautio at state.or.us with any questions.

Organizing community support for smoke-free air and other tobacco control measures is a challenge for many state and local tobacco control programs.  This webinar will provide a step-by-step process for planning and implementing successful town hall meetings.  We will hear about "lessons learned," and how to overcome challenges from the state and local perspectives.  The webinar will also feature media materials and video footage from successful events.

Registration: Registration is required for this webinar and must be completed by September 21, 2011. Prior to the webinar, log-in information will be provided to registered participants only. Each person who will be on the webinar must register separately. This applies even to participants logging in from a conference room or other shared location.

Learning Objectives:
Participants will be able to:
· Plan and organize an effective town hall meeting
· Utilize media advocacy to educate the public, shape public opinion, and influence policy-makers to support and take action regarding smoke-free air policies
· Recruit supporters from the hospitality, health/medical, and business sectors, as well as the general public, faith leaders/groups, and numerous other individuals, to act as advocates, coalition members, and spokespeople for smoke free air
· Identify potential challenges/barriers to planning/implementing a town hall meeting
