Historic theatres will be center stage April 22-24 at the Oregon Heritage Conference in North Bend-Coos Bay.

More than a dozen Oregon communities boast a historic theatre, many of which are being restored to their glory days. The University of Oregon will report on its inventory of Oregon's historic theaters and suggest effective preservation, renovation and tourism outreach strategies for them. Several of these theaters will also report on their progress and aspirations.

Conference attendees will also be able to enjoy an evening at the Egyptian Theatre in Coos Bay. They will be able to see the Egyptian's stunning architecture, listen to its historic Wurlitzer organ and visit with people who have been responsible for its restoration success during the past few years.

The conference will include keynote speakers, panels, workshops, traditional heritage events, and behind-the-scenes visits to some of the area's heritage sites. The Oregon Heritage Excellence Award banquet and the Oregon Heritage Fellowship research talks are also scheduled.

More information and registration for the conference is available at http://www.oregon.gov/oprd/HCD/OHC/Pages/Conference.aspx For more information, contact Oregon Heritage at heritage.info at oregon.gov or phone Kuri Gill at 503-986-0685.
