Oregon Library Association and Oregon Association of School Libraries Announce Merger
On Thursday April 26th, members of the Oregon Library Association enthusiastically and unanimously voted to accept the merger with the Oregon Association of School Libraries. OASL Members had voted in favor of the merger at their conference in October 2011.
The mission of OASL is to provide progressive leadership to ensure that Oregon students and educators are effective users of ideas and information, and to pursue excellence in school library media programs. OASL and its members touch every corner of the state through the annual Oregon Battle of the Books, ORCA and Beverly Cleary Children's Choice Awards, conferences and other projects.
The discussion and vote have been a multi-year process. Sincere thanks to everyone involved, especially OASL President Susan Stone, OASL Past President Ruth Murray, OLA Past President Mary Ginnane, and the members of the OLA-OASL Joint Committee on School-Public Library Cooperation.
The two groups will merge effective July 1, 2012.
Please join me in welcoming School Librarians, Teacher-Librarians, and School Media Specialists to OLA!
-Abigail Elder, OLA President
