Hello! National Poetry Month is the perfect time remind everyone about the Oregon Poetry Collection at the State Library.
In 2007, the Oregon State Library and the Oregon Poetry Association<http://www.oregonpoets.org/> joined together to preserve, promote, and make accessible publications of Oregon poets. Publications in this special collection are written by Oregon poets, past and present, or deal substantially with Oregon subject matter.
Any Oregonian, with a current photo ID, may check out circulating items from the Oregon Poetry Collection by coming to the State Library's Reference Room or asking their local library to request the item through interlibrary loan. Please use this online catalog<http://catalog.osl.state.or.us/search%7ES2/d?SEARCH=oregon+poetry+collection> to find out what is in our collection!
A few years ago the Oregon Poetry Collection worked with a graphic designer to create two posters promoting Oregon poetry. One looks a little edgy and perfect for teens and young adults while the other is classic with a William Stafford poem. These posters are available for you to download and print via our website<http://www.oregon.gov/OSL/LD/youthsvcs/oregon.poetry.collection.shtml#Print_Oregon_Poetry_Posters>. They are available in the standard 11x8.5 as well as 22x28.
The Oregon Poetry Collection is dependent on donations. All gifts and donations become the property of the State Library, which is primarily responsible for monographs, or the Oregon State Poetry Association, which is responsible for ephemeral and archival items. Any items that are needed will be added to the collection. All other items will be distributed to other organizations or entities as deems appropriate. If you would like to donate poetry books written by Oregon poets please ship them to:
