JOB ANNOUNCEMENT:
Associate University Librarian for Learning and Engagement
Oregon State University Libraries

Oregon State University Libraries seeks an innovative, dynamic, and experienced library leader to join the organization’s senior leadership team as the AUL for Learning and Engagement. The AUL for Learning and Engagement will provide vision, leadership, motivation and supervision for the 50 faculty and staff in the Teaching and Engagement Department (TED), Branch Libraries, and the Collections and Resource Sharing Department (CRSD). Critical responsibilities include active collaboration especially at the campus and consortial level, effective leadership and planning for innovative user services and student-focused facilities, as well as program and resource development to serve OSU’s increasingly diverse and international population and its growing online education program.

In collaboration with the Associate University Librarian for Research and Scholarly Communication and other key library administrators, the AUL for Learning and Engagement advises and assists the University Librarian in all aspects of library management and administration to advance the Libraries’ ongoing role in shaping and transforming the University's teaching, learning, and research mission. As a principal participant in overall library administration, the successful candidate will play a key role in strategic planning, policy decision-making, organizational planning, project oversight, budget allocation, and personnel management. He/she will lead faculty and staff in the development and implementation of initiatives and services that promote learning and engagement for Oregon’s only university to hold both the Carnegie Foundation's top designation for research institutions and its prestigious Community Engagement classification. He/she will also support an environment that emphasizes ongoing assessment of the services and initiatives to position the Libraries to respond to users’ evolving needs as instructors, researchers and scholars. As a senior administrator, the AUL supports library faculty in the promotion and tenure process by working with tenure-track faculty on their research, providing mentoring in the tenure process, and guiding faculty in their research activities.

Applicants must have sufficient experience to qualify for appointment at the Associate Professor level according to University guidelines. Candidates with an exceptional record of research achievements and other relevant experience may be considered at the Full Professor level.

OSU Libraries comprise the Valley Library, the Guin Library, and the OSU-Cascades Library. OSU Libraries are committed to partnering with academic units to support student learning and success and fulfill the University’s land grant mission by collaborating with diverse partners on campus and throughout Oregon. The Valley Library, located in the center of campus, offers an environment conducive to individual study and collaborative work. For its commitment to creating effective collaborative learning environments for the OSU community, the Libraries were featured in the April 2012 edition of American Libraries “Showcase for Innovative Design.” Uniquely located within the Hatfield Marine Science Center in Newport, Oregon, the Guin Library partners with multiple units to support research and teaching in the marine science community. Co-located within the Barber Library facilities of Central Oregon Community College (Bend, Oregon), the OSU-Cascades Library Services supports a growing OSU community with programs focused on tourism and outdoor leadership and sustainability. Since 2007, OSU Press has been a part of OSU Libraries. The Press publishes exceptional books about the Pacific Northwest—its people and landscapes, its flora and fauna, its history and cultural heritage.

The Libraries have the distinction of holding three endowed positions, including the Franklin McEdward Endowed Professorship for Undergraduate Research and Innovation. OSU Libraries has nearly 2 million volumes and vast digital resources including ScholarsArchive at OSU (the 8th ranked single-university digital repository in the U.S.), internationally recognized digital collections like the Oregon Explorer natural resources digital library, and an agile development environment which has produced the Library à la Carte Content Management System, the LibraryFind metasearch application, and other digital initiatives to serve the university’s 24,000 students, faculty scholars and researchers, and the public.
