I'm writing to give an update on the Statewide Database Licensing Advisory Committee's (SDLAC) progress to recommend product(s)/vendor(s) for the next procurement by the State Library. Between now and 9/23/13, Committee Members will evaluate the proposed products from responding vendors whose written proposals have passed Round 1 and entered Round 2. During Round 2, Committee Members will evaluate recorded demos and their hands-on review of the products. We know this is a short time frame for the Committee Members to complete their evaluations, however if you have questions or particular interests in this, please do contact your representative listed here: http://1.usa.gov/17ixHTf. Also, you are welcome to contact me with questions, comments, etc.
This year the RFP included multiple categories, a strategy used by other State libraries, with the hopes of meeting as many Oregonians information needs as possible given budget constraints. The RFP called for the 4 categories listed below. Also listed are the vendors participating in Round 2.
Category 1: General Periodicals Database Package: Ebsco, Gale, Proquest
Category 2: Academic Journals Database Package: Ebsco, Gale, Proquest
Categories 3 & 4: General Reference Database Package: reference works & current issues (Cat. 3: Britannica, Ebsco, Gale, Proquest, WorldBook; Cat. 4: Ebsco, Gale, Proquest)
The SDLAC expects to make its recommendations to the LSTA Council by the end of October 2013, and a final decision on the next statewide contract will be made by State Library Board by the end of December 2013.
