The San Jose State University (SJSU)

=ALAAuction> School of Information is inviting information professionals and
American Library Association (ALA) Annual Conference attendees to a free
networking reception and silent auction from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Saturday,
June 27, 2015, at the <http://sf-local.com/?page_id=675> Local Kitchen &
Wine Merchant, located at 330 First Street in San Francisco, California.

Among the coveted items available at the auction is an American flag flown
at the United States Capitol, which was generously donated by Senator
Barbara Boxer. A framed original floral pencil drawing by Senator Dianne
Feinstein will also be on display and available to the highest bidder.
Hockey fans are looking forward to bidding on an authentic hockey puck
signed by San Jose Sharks goalie Antti Niemi, and foodies will be hungry to
place a bid on a $70 gift certificate to the iconic

All proceeds from the silent auction will go toward the iSchool's

scholarship program. For the 2014-2015 academic year, $28,000 in
scholarships have been awarded to highly deserving students from what Dr.
Cheryl Stenstrom, chair of the Student Awards and Scholarship Committee,
deemed "a particularly strong cohort of candidates."

provides technology education to girls in underserved areas of Los Angeles.
"I see myself applying the work I know and love with DIY Girls to my future
position as a digital literacy advocate," said Aguinaga.

Another student who is applying what she is learning at the iSchool to
"advocate for literacy, educational equity, and social change" is Melissa
Solis, winner of both a Friends of the Leisure World Library Scholarship and
the Blanche Woolls Spectrum Scholarship. Solis manages an adult literacy and
volunteer program at a public library south of San Diego, California, and is
actively involved with the San Diego Council on Literacy and LIBROS, the San
Diego and Imperial Counties chapter of REFORMA.

Cash and credit card payments are accepted for all auction sales.
