Northwest Institutional Repository User Group (NWIRUG) Call for Proposals - Inaugural Annual Meeting, July 2016

Share your knowledge and expertise with colleagues throughout the Northwest. The Northwest Institutional Repository User Group (NWIRUG) invites proposal submissions for panel presentations or lightning talks during the inaugural NWIRUG annual meeting on Tuesday, July 12, 2016. IR managers and staff at all levels are encouraged to submit proposals.

Formats

Panel Presentations
Panel presentations will be made up of 3-4 speakers. There will be two panel sessions, for a total of 6-8 presentations. Speakers will present for 20 minutes, with approximately 30 minutes reserved at the end of each panel for audience questions and discussion. Possible topics for each panel include:


*         Institutional Repository Management

o   Outreach and marketing

o   Policy creation

o   Staffing

o   Copyright/Creative Commons/author rights

o   Balancing success in the IR with other initiatives

*         Publishing

o   Open Educational Resources (OERs)

o   Journal publishing

o   IRs and the university press

o   IR services related to publishing

o   Different approaches to publishing (e.g., undergraduate vs. faculty journals, interdisciplinary vs. specialized journals)

Lightning Talks
Lightning talks will consist of 5 slides, and speakers will have 5 minutes (1 minute per slide) to discuss a topic of their choice. Possible topics include:

*         Workflow solutions

*         Best practices

*         Tips & tricks for recruiting content

*         Displaying IR statistics through infographics

*         Designing a social media promotion campaign

*         Ideas for celebrating Open Access Week

Presentation date and location

The 2016 NWIRUG Meeting will be held on Tuesday, July 12, 2016 at the Portland State University Library. There is no cost to attend, but space is limited.
How to submit your proposal

1. Please prepare the following before you begin the online proposal process:


*         Complete contact information for speaker

*         Presentation type (Panel presentation or Lightning talk)

*         Presentation title

*         Presentation description. The description should be approximately 300 words (100 words for Lightning talks); outline the main points you intend to cover, and highlight the relevance of the talk for attendees.

2. Submit your proposal via the online submission form<http://pdxscholar.library.pdx.edu/cgi/ir_submit.cgi?context=nwirug>.

Deadline

The deadline for submissions is 5:00 p.m. PDT, Monday, April 18, 2016.

Selection criteria

Proposals will be reviewed by the NWIRUG Program Committee for clarity, originality, and timeliness. Presenters will be notified whether their proposal has been accepted by May 2, 2016.

Use of presentation materials

Following the conference, materials (such as slideshows) from the Panel presentations and Lightning talks will be made openly available on the NWIRUG conference website. By participating in either of these events, you agree to provide the NWIRUG planning committee with a digital copy of your presentation that can be posted to the website.
