Inspire and build for the future as Crook County Library's next Library Director. The Board of Trustees seeks an experienced, creative, and innovative Library Director who can continue to grow a vibrant library serving the Prineville and Crook County communities. The successful applicant will be energetic, innovative, and public service oriented with excellent traditional and technological library skills.
Situated in the heart of Oregon, Prineville and Crook County attract outdoors enthusiasts, families, and retirees who appreciate the region's natural beauty, mild climate, and the friendly small-town environment. Agriculture, forest products, and manufacturing are joined by new industry, such as data centers, recently constructed by Facebook and Apple. A new hospital, new elementary school, and new home construction signal a recovering and revitalized economy. Covering approximately 2,900 square miles, Crook County is rich in forests, rangelands, and irrigated agricultural fields. The elevation of Prineville is 2,868 feet and receives an average of 10.5 inches of moisture per year. County residents find themselves only 25 minutes away from the regional airport in Redmond, 40 minutes away from Bend, and three hours from Portland, Salem, and Eugene.
The library facility, designed by noted architect Richard Turi, was constructed in 1999 and offers a spectacular view of the rimrocks and is a comfortable gathering place for patrons. The library consists of a collection of 56,000 items and shares an ILS and resources with Deschutes and Jefferson county libraries. The new director will benefit from a knowledgeable and dedicated staff, an active and engaged library board, a supportive and generous Friends of the Library organization, and appreciative patrons. Each month residents make over 10,000 visits to the library and check out over 13,500 items. As a county department, the library's $720,000 annual operating budget comes from the county's general fund.
Compensation:  $61,630, with competitive benefits package
Qualifications required:  Master's degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution; 7 years of progressively responsible professional library experience, at least 3 years of which must have been served in a supervisory or management capacity in a public library.
