Located in Portland, Oregon, one of the nation's most livable cities,

The Reference and Instruction Librarian – Urban and Public Affairs provides
reference and information services for the University’s students and
faculty as-well-as members of the general public; participates in a dynamic
instructional program, including classroom and online instruction; consults
and collaborates with scholars; and coordinates information resources to
support the instructional and research needs of a diverse institution. Some
evening and weekend instruction is required. This position may serve as a
liaison to academic units: Criminology and Criminal Justice, Political
Science, Public Health, and Urban Studies and Planning. Portland State
University non-tenure track faculty members contribute to faculty
governance activities within the Library and the University and engage in
research activities and professional service, as assigned.



This full-time, temporary, 12-month, non-tenure track faculty position
reports to the Research & Instruction Services Manager. This position is
covering duties for a faculty member on sabbatical.



*Responsibilities:*

·         Provides reference and information services for the University’s
students and faculty as well as members of the general public through work
at the reference desk and through various information and communications
technologies.

·         Participates in the Library’s information literacy and general
instruction program, both face-to-face and online. Collaborates with
teaching faculty to develop discipline-appropriate instruction in liaison
areas. Shares in the development and delivery of course-related instruction
in the general education program.

·         Supports the instructional and research needs of assigned units.
Select books and other information resources. Collaborates with assigned
units in assessing information needs and availability of information
resources, cultivating bridges for service and teaching; and provides
research consultations for faculty and students in these units. Includes
work during some evening and weekend hours.

·         Develops physical and online learning objects and research guides.

·         Maintains awareness of scholarly communication and copyright
issues in general and within the assigned disciplines and contribute to
advocacy efforts. Keeps colleagues informed of current issues and
developments in the field related to the subject areas of responsibility.

·         Engages in scholarship and research activities, as assigned.

·         Contributes to faculty governance activities within the Library
and the University, as assigned.

·         Engages in professional service, as assigned.

·         Supports the mission, goals, and objectives of the University and
the Library.

·         Other duties as assigned.

*Minimum Qualifications*

   - ALA-accredited MLS
   - At least one year post MLS professional level experience in an
   academic, health sciences, research or government agency library
   - Experience in at least two of these areas: serving as a liaison to
   academic departments; teaching or training; or collection development



*Preferred Qualifications         *

   - Experience with information literacy concepts
   - Experience with NIH open access compliance
   - Experience developing online learning objects, tutorials, videos using
   multimedia software and platforms
   - Degree in one of the assigned liaison areas



*Compensation*

The annual salary rate for this position starts at $53,868 with an
excellent benefits package including 95% premium paid healthcare; a
generous retirement and vacation package; and reduced tuition rates for
employee, spouse or dependent at any of the Oregon Public Universities.
