Hi all,
Pamela said it would be okay to share with the REFORMA list. I think this
would be of great value to anyone on this list with connections to K-12
teachers, school librarians etc. Please share as appropriate. If you have
any questions you can respond directly to Pamela or Patti below.
Best, Michele

This past year, I have been collaborating with the Center for Latin
American Studies to develop a K-12 teacher virtual program on Latin
American and Latinx children’s literature. Below is a short synopsis of the
virtual program which100% free and offers professional development credits
for teachers.

“In 2021, the Center for Latin American Studies (CLAS) established the
CLAS BookBox program, a series of seven-week continuing education sessions
for K-12 teachers to explore and integrate Latin American centered picture
books and poetry into their curriculum. The program features different
theme books paired with guest speaker and experts that introduce and
discuss various identities and themes within the diverse Latin American
experience. The program is facilitated by Patricia Vocal (CLAS Outreach
Coordinator) and Dr. Patricia Enciso (Professor of Literature for Children
& Young Adults) and bring together K-12 teachers from across the country.
As part of the program, each teacher receive a free set of books, guided
instruction on critical reading with Latinx literature, and library support
to create a custom lesson-plan on a program book to use in their classroom.”

I am writing to ask if you may be able to forward information about this
program to K-12 teachers in your network. Below I have forwarded the
registration links to the program.

Thank you in advance for your help and consideration.

Best,

Pamela
