MOBILE - How to Block Spam Texts and Calls
Intermediate
[spam message]
You may be used to receiving annoying spam calls on your mobile device… but now you're getting unwanted texts as well! As hard as you try to keep your mobile number private, spammers have found ways to get a hold of it. Texts have started to appear offering better financing, how to start a business and so on.
If you're tired of getting spam calls and texts, or maybe need to cut ties with someone -- you can block specific numbers from reaching you.
Let's take a look at how to stop unwanted calls and texts from specific numbers to reduce these irritating interruptions -- on both iPhone and Android devices.
Stopping Legitimate Messages
[stop]
First, if it is a valid text that you want to receive -- such as a notification for a package delivery or that your cell phone bill is due ... here's what you can do:
Simply text back STOP
to be removed from their list!
BEWARE: NEVER respond to a spam message as it could trigger malware that may be downloaded to your phone. And answering these also tells spammers that your number is a "good" one and they can message you from an alternate number.
[block a message]
How to Block Text Messages on an iPhone
There are multiple ways to block texts on an iPhone device. When you do so, you block not only text messages from that number but also phone calls and FaceTime calls.
To Block a Number From an Existing Text Message
· Open Messages and tap the conversation that includes the number you want blocked.
· Select the arrow to the right of the contact.
· Select info (denoted by the round "i" icon).
· Select Info (the last button on the right).
· Scroll down and tap Block this Caller.
· Select Block Contact to confirm.
Block a Number from a Recent Call
If you want to block the number from a phone call...
· Open the list of calls in the Phone or FaceTime app.
· Tap the (i) icon next to the number you want blocked.
· Select Block this Caller.
From Settings
[block contact]
If you don't have an existing message or recent call from the person you want to block, but they're a contact in your phone, you can set up the call and text blocking from Settings.
· Open the Settings app.
· Tap Messages, then scroll down to Blocked Contacts (in the SMS/MMS section).
· Tap Add New (at the bottom of the list of numbers if you have already added some).
· Pick the contact you want to block.
Block Texts on an Android Device
Your options will depend on what messaging app you're using.
Google's Messages App
· Open the message.
· Use the menu at the top right to access Details,
· Then Block & report spam.
Facebook Messenger App
· Press and hold the conversation with the number you want blocked.
· Tap the menu button.
· Select Block.
· Tap Block once again to confirm.
[block text]
Device Specific
Or, depending on the type of device, there are other ways to block a text. For example, on a Samsung, highlight the text and tap the Notifications button for blocking options.
Block a Caller
In general, you should be able to tap the phone number and either scroll to the bottom to block the call, or tap the ellipsis icon and select Block Number to add a number.
Report Spam Texts Numbers To Your Phone Carrier
[text message]
For any type of device, you have the option to report a spam or robo-text to your service provider. This works for AT&T, Verizon Wireless, and T-Mobile. They all use the information to try and block future spam messages.
NOTE: The steps below may change or vary depending on 3rd party apps.
On an iPhone
· Open the message on your phone.
· Press and hold on the message.
· Click on "More…"
· Tap the forward arrow at the bottom right.
· Enter 7726 in the "To" field.
· Hit the Send arrow in the lower right.
· Reply to the response text you receive from your provider and include the spam number.
On an Android Device
· Open the message on your phone.
· Press and hold on the message to get a list of actions to pop up.
· Select the "forward message" option.
· The message will be selected, click the forward arrow in the upper right.
· Enter 7726 in the forward "To" field. The number will display below for you to confirm the recipient.
· Hit the send arrow in the upper right.
· Reply to the response text you receive from your provider and include the spam number.

Communications: Self
A mindset for success
We all know how important a positive mindset is, right? But getting there sometimes is another issue especially when it comes to speaking to a group.
Here's a trick that works quite well and doesn't put so much pressure on you.
Don't think: "I'm going to be a success with this presentation."
"I'm going to rock!" "I'm going to speak eloquently."
You may believe that the above statements are quite positive and useful. However, the flaw is that they judge you. You, yourself, should not be diminished (or raised up) by how well a presentation goes.
The presentation stands on it's own in terms of success or not.
DO think: "This is going to go really well." "This presentation will rock!"
"The message is going to come across eloquently."
Bottom Line: You want the event to be a success!

Leadership
Mix Tech and Process with a TOC
You probably have a slew of processes in your organization, all tucked away in a variety of places, right?
There may be documentation for new hires, handling patron requests, or cataloging media. Because it's really great to have identified processes for people to follow, it's even better if those directions can be found easily.
Here's an idea for you ... create a Table of Contents (TOC), a list of all the documentation you have available. This can be a separate document (a directory) that has links to all of the individual process documents. This way people can find the files they need easily
Here's an example with the top three topics linked to their source.
Thinking Outside the Box
The Table of Contents doesn't have to be the first page of all the processes housed in one place. It can simply be a STAND-ALONE document with links (or if material isn't linkable, type a description of where the item can be found).
This way, when anyone needs to understand the appropriate way to handle something, they'll know where to go to find the process they need.
How to Create a TOC
Creating a Table of Contents (TOC) is quite easy and fast ... once you know how. Simply What You Do: 1. List all the folder and document names. 2. Make each name a Heading or Subheading using the Styles in Word (or Google). 3. Link them.
