Culturally responsive teaching is also about empowerment and interrupting
teaching practices that keep certain students dependent learners. We have
to create the right instructional conditions that stimulate neuron growth
and myelination by giving students work that is relevant and focused on
problem-solving (Hammond, 2015).

I am a BIPOC individual who teaches and is involved in pedagogical
instruction projects at a local community college. I often see fantastic
work being done by practitioners in this area! Work like Kevin Kelly does
is full of practical advice (Design for Learning Equity With Kevin Kelly
<https://thinkudl.org/design-for-learning-equity-with-kevin-kelly> - Think
UDL, n.d.). Equity pedagogical work is often disconnected from the
experiences of those whom this movement desires to help succeed. I wrote
this blog post to think through some significant points that do not seem to
have been analyzed and that I think are detrimental to equity, diversity,
inclusion, and antiracism.
