Library Support and Services for First-Generation College Students - Wednesday, February 22, 2023, 1:30 pm - 3:30 pm Central
College students who are the first in their families to attend college are collectively called first-generation college students. According to the US Department of Education, only 24 percent of first-generation students graduate with a bachelor’s degree compared to 68 percent of students whose parents are college graduates. Grasp the characteristics, challenges, and opportunities first-generation students face and how libraries can help these students navigate the college experience. Learning objectives for this session include developing programs, services, and outreach opportunities geared toward first-generation college students and creating campus partnerships to help improve the success and retention of first-generation college students.
