The current Program Director, Susan Stearns, has taken EAST from the
initial Mellon funded project to a stand alone not-for-profit program. She
is retiring and the Board of Directors is looking for a dynamic leader with
experience and expertise with community stewardship and an understanding of
shared print and collective collections, who will work 25-30 hours a week
to build upon this strong foundation.

EAST has over 150 academic and research libraries, across 15 states. Its
mission is to maximize retention commitments and facilitate access.
Currently there are over 11 million monograph and 37,000 serials and
journal EAST retention commitments registered in OCLC WorldCat and the PAPR
databases.

EAST directly addresses the growing need for academic and research
libraries to ensure that print books and journals of scholarly value are
not inadvertently discarded as libraries undertake necessary weeding and
deselection programs to free up space for other library services. By
ensuring that scholarly content across the libraries is retained locally on
behalf of all EAST members, faculty, students, and scholars can have
confidence that they will have access to these resources and that unique
and valuable scholarly content is protected in support of teaching,
learning, research and scholarship.
