WATCH: Health Programming at Your Library<https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wdTFfFjqfig> (NNLM) 90-minute recorded webinar from March 2024.
First, we'll discuss purpose of conducting health outreach programs for libraries and how to plan a program using a logic model. Then, we'll brainstorm potential partnerships for health programming and outreach, and learn how resources from the National Library of Medicine (NLM) and other reputable agencies introduce community members to health resources in fun and engaging ways.  Finally, we'll share examples of successful programs for children, teens, adults, and seniors using NLM and National Institutes of Health resources that will activate your interest in collaborating and engaging your community in health outreach programming.

In this episode, Immer Honorato, Library Outreach Specialist at the Tualatin Public Library, talks with us about connecting his library with his community in Tualatin, Oregon. As an immigrant of Mexico who grew up in Tualatin, Immer brings an important bilingual and bicultural perspective to bridging the gap between library services and a library's community. He reminds us that there are steps that all of us can take to improve accessibility, a sense of belonging, and relevancy  in our libraries.

Providing access to resources is one of the library's core functions. A strong collection development policy helps guide selection to meet the community's needs and having a policy and keeping it current is essential for guiding and defending your collection efforts. The director usually writes the collection development policy with the help of staff involved in running departments or selecting materials.  Working together to draft or update your policy will help keep selection consistent and protect the library in the face of complaints and challenges. By the end of this tutorial, you'll be able to:

*       Describe the purpose of the collection development policy

*       Determine which sections to include in a policy for your library

*       Draft or review a policy

*       Secure board approval of the policy
