SPOTLIGHT:

Responding to ICE at the Library: Real World Approaches (Recording, PLA/ALA, Oregon Library Staff Academy)
When agents from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) enter a public library, staff need to know how to respond calmly, lawfully, and in ways that keep everyone safe. This on-demand webinar highlights how libraries of different sizes and in different communities are navigating these situations in real life. Presenters share how their libraries are approaching staff training, handling interactions, and ensuring everything is done professionally and legally. This on-demand webinar, sponsored by PLA’s Committee on Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Social Justice, was designed to offer practical, real-world perspectives.

The recording can be access through the Oregon Library Staff Academy through March 25, 2027– if you need to request access to the academy, please use this form<https://www.cognitoforms.com/StateLibraryOfOregon/RequestAccessToContinuingEducationResources> and select the option for the Oregon Library Staff Academy. Access is available to staff and volunteers (including Board, Friends, and Foundation members) of all library types in Oregon.

Thursday, April 9, 10:30a – 1:30p PT: Perspectives On AI<https://www.library20.com/miniconferences/perspectives-on-ai> (Library 2.0 2026 Mini-Conference)
AI is reshaping libraries in ways that raise hard questions and real opportunities, and library workers are responding with everything from skepticism to excitement to alarm. This three-hour mini-conference, "Perspectives on AI: Exploring Experiences with AI in Library Work" on Thursday, April 9, 10:30 am - 1:30 pm US-Pacific Time, is designed to honor that complexity so attendees can form their own informed, values-grounded view.
The mini-conference will explore AI from the angles that matter to library workers:
·        Understanding risks and potential harms;
·        Practical applications in library and administrative work;
·        Research and information literacy;
·        Leadership decision-making;
·        Ethical considerations;
· Supporting patrons who are navigating AI in their own lives.

Save the Date!
Tuesday and Wednesday, July 14 and 15, 7:30a – 1:30p PT, Reimagining Information Literacy: A National Forum<https://reimaginingliteracy.cmpinc.net/> (New Jersey State Library and Institute of Museum and Library Services).
Registration is now open<https://www.edgereg.net/er/Registration/StepRegInfo.jsp?ActivityID=44112&StepNumber=1&v=ODc0N2FhZDYtNzZiYi00MjcwLTk2OWItNWI3YWNjY2QwYjkx>, and sessions<https://reimaginingliteracy.cmpinc.net/agenda/> will be recorded!

Reimagining Information Literacy is an opportunity for librarians, educators, and researchers to gather to reflect on the importance of information literacy. Variously understood as digital, visual, media, textual, and/or technological literacy, this forum approaches information literacy as an umbrella that is inclusive of all types. The need for a high degree of information literacy spans the continuum of life – from the time a child “reads” a cereal box at the breakfast table, to an elder’s decision-making around medical treatment, information is a part of daily life. With the advent of widespread artificial intelligence tools, it is also a time of reimagination. [More information<https://reimaginingliteracy.cmpinc.net/>]
