AT YOUR LEISURE:

WATCH: You're Not a Social Worker, But… <https://my.nicheacademy.com/oregonstaff/course/93260> (PCI Webinar / Oregon Library Staff Academy)
Note: Oregon library staff and volunteers can request access to the Oregon Library Staff Academy by using this form<https://www.cognitoforms.com/StateLibraryOfOregon/RequestAccessToContinuingEducationResources> and choosing the option for the Oregon Library Staff Academy.

While library staff are not trained social workers, they are often placed in situations that require empathy, de-escalation, and informed referrals due to the growing complex behavioral, and social-emotional needs within their branch communities. This webinar is designed to provide practical, realistic tools that library professionals can use within their role and scope, without expecting them to replace trained clinicians or social service providers.

Learning Objectives include:

  * Communicate with patrons using empathy while maintaining professional boundaries
  * Recognize and manage personal bias, stress reactions, and emotional triggers
  * Build and leverage relationships to connect patrons with appropriate community resources

LEARN: Practical Project Management<https://my.nicheacademy.com/oregonstaff/course/90661> (Self-paced tutorial / Oregon Library Staff Academy)

Accomplishing a specific outcome within a specific time frame has always been an objective for organizations. The use of project management tools and techniques to effectively manage resources is key in the ever changing landscape of resource limitations, technological enhancements, and shifting policies. But also key is using project management to determine how best apply these tools and techniques to the size and type of project, to ensure efficient project planning and implementation.

In this webinar, Kirsten Clark provides opportunities to explore how right-sizing the effort to the project and organizational needs provides a more sustainable approach to project success. Attendees will leave with a better understanding of how to work through project planning and implementation that also fits the individual organizational project needs.

ONLINE CONFERENCES

Tuesday and Wednesday, July 14 and 15, 7:30a – 1:30p PT, Reimagining Information Literacy: A National Forum<https://reimaginingliteracy.cmpinc.net/> (New Jersey State Library and Institute of Museum and Library Services).
Registration is now open<https://www.edgereg.net/er/Registration/StepRegInfo.jsp?ActivityID=44112&StepNumber=1&v=ODc0N2FhZDYtNzZiYi00MjcwLTk2OWItNWI3YWNjY2QwYjkx>, sessions<https://reimaginingliteracy.cmpinc.net/agenda/> will be recorded!

Reimagining Information Literacy is an opportunity for librarians, educators, and researchers to gather to reflect on the importance of information literacy. Variously understood as digital, visual, media, textual, and/or technological literacy, this forum approaches information literacy as an umbrella that is inclusive of all types. The need for a high degree of information literacy spans the continuum of life – from the time a child “reads” a cereal box at the breakfast table, to an elder’s decision-making around medical treatment, information is a part of daily life. With the advent of widespread artificial intelligence tools, it is also a time of reimagination. [More information<https://reimaginingliteracy.cmpinc.net/>]
