Divorce and Family Mediation Class

Southern Oregon University

SOU is offering an advanced mediation course that examines family mediation theory and process, different approaches used by experienced mediators, the effects of divorce on children, mediating with high conflict families and grandparents and how to work within the context of the court and the private sector. Participants will learn to apply advanced communication skills, to screen for domestic violence and child abuse, to document parenting plans, custody agreements and gain a basic understanding of child support.
Certification: This course meets the educational training requirements for court-commissioned mediators as adopted by Chief Justice Order 05-028.

Instructors: Michael Belsky, Ed.D. - Divorce and family mediator with Josephine Co. Family Court for 25 years; co-founder Mediation Works, serving Josephine and Jackson Counties. Josie Wilson, Ph.D. - Licensed Psychologist; Professor of Psychology at SOU; former Coordinator Mental Health Counseling program.

When: April 26-27 & May 2-4, 2014. All five days 8 am to 5 pm

Continuing Education Hours: SOU provides continuing education hours for the National Board of Certified Counselors and for LCSW continuing education.
Fees: Course fee: $795 non-credit participants; optional 4 Psychology credits for an additional fee: $40 undergraduate credits and $200 graduate credits.
Prerequisite: Complete a 36 hours Basic Mediation or Fundamentals of Mediation class.
