FYI - New Grant Program Just Announced! Deadline is January 27,
2012_____________________________Grants available for façade restoration
of historic buildings
 
The Oregon State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) is offering
“Diamonds in the Rough” grants to restore or reconstruct the facades
of buildings that have been heavily altered over the years. The emphasis
is on commercial buildings in historic downtown districts.
 
Application forms are available through the Oregon Parks and Recreation
Department’s Heritage Programs website, www.oregonheritage.org (
http://www.oregonheritage.org/ ), or by calling 503-986-0685.The
application deadline is Jan. 27, 2012.
 
The grants provide financial support for projects such as  exposing
transom windows, removing aluminum or wood paneling that covers the
original features, and restoring missing decorative features like
cornices.
 
The purpose is to return the buildings to their historic appearance and
potentially qualify them for historic register designation. National
Register designation contributes to eligibility for state and federal
incentives for further work on the property.
