[OMS_MANAGERS] Promotion Committees

At this point, the Amity Downtown Improvement Group has held three focused activities per year.  In the spring (March/April) we have held a business lecture targeted at businesses and in the fall/winter (early December) is a holiday tree lighting which is targeted at the community.  Sandwiched in between, during the summer (August), is the fundraiser (Appetizers for Improvement).
 
The business lecture is the least time intensive, followed by the holiday event.  Of course, the most time and energy intensive event is the fundraiser...and it is held (stragegically for us and our energies) during the summer.  This spread of activities during the year seems like the right mix for us now as we are a very small group.  
 
We are just starting to embark on creating a business brochure which would fit under the Promotion Committee category as well.

Hi everyone,

Our Promo Committee Chair is wanting to work on a strategic plan for her
committee.  She'd like some input from other committees on where they've
found their "time spent" to be most effective.

ie:  in a town of 2500, how many "events" are appropriate through the year
.  How about community events vs. fund-raising events?

AND, what about the other responsibility of the committee, promoting the
Main Street organization, the town and businesses?

So that her committee doesn't burn itself out and can create a strategy
that's sustainable, they want to narrow down their focus just a bit.

I told her I'd ask those that have, perhaps, experienced this!
