Garbage on our main street has been collected free of charge from hauler
provided receptacles. Most trash stations are collected near transit stops.
I'll be interested in the results of this request.

Hi Sheri,
Hope this email finds you well.
I have recently been in touch with Roxana Grant at the downtown Roseburg
association and she mentioned that you might be a good contact.
Ourselves at Washington County along with the City of Hillsboro and other
stakeholders are investigating the idea of having a central
garbage/recycling enclosure situated behind a number of business on one city
block, that all businesses on that block can access and use. We want to
help create more space behind the businesses and address the issue of a
number of dumpsters (and some waste)strewn all over the place. We would
like to establish a shared service for businesses block by block in the
downtown area.
Roxana and I were in touch because I was informed that the downtown Roseburg
association was doing something similar.
We are at the beginning stages of putting a proposal together and wanted to
gather as much information around current & past efforts, successes and
failures etc..
Do you have much insight into who has run/is running similar communal
garbage and recycling services?
I am particularly interested in:
* Merchants collectively getting together and paying for a dumpster
* How/where that trash and recycling was stored
* Are there special facilities for enclosed garbage or is it block
by block?
* Are business owners receptive to walking a few blocks to get to
the enclosed garbage?
* Is it one rate per business regardless of how much waste is
generated?
* What was the strategy to get property owner cooperation?
* What was the process behind getting businesses to buy into and
share the communal service?
* Did you directly work with the property managers to arrange this
set up or did you additionally have to have tenant approval/buy in?
* Did all parties settle on a location for the enclosure?
* Is there more than one enclosure in some instances?
Any information and/or leads you may have would be much appreciated.
Please feel free to contact me by phone or email, whichever is easier. I
appreciate your time and look forward to hearing from you.
Cheers,
Gregor
