Lois, my great great great aunt Frances Gage was on the Gilliam train with her husband Joseph. It was also led by Michael Troutman Simmons who was my great great grandmother's uncle. Did your research into the 1844 Independent Colony Train reveal anything about the Gages? I know Joseph was one of the men appointed to be a judge. Bob Casebeer

Yes, it used to be very busy - like 5 - 6 years ago something was going on all the time. But that was when a bunch of us were looking for our DLC numbera so we could all join "Sons & Daughters of Oregon Pioneers". I guess we all found what we need and just faded away after we got our SDOP memberships.
I just signed on again recently to watch what was going on. Only name I recognize anymore is Walt Davies. But some of us did learn a certain amount and I, for one, would be happy to pass on the little I know WHEN I know what it is.

My family name from Oregon Trail is WALKER. Samuel and Jemima Walker came with the Nathaniel Ford party (Gilliam Wagon Train) 1844. Samuel had been with the old 9th Infantry 23 years (Joined at about 13 yrs of age), spent about 8 years farming in the Independence, MO area then(from 1840 census partly). They left MO with the Nathaniel Ford party about the 1st of June 1844. Found them mentioned in "Journal of a Mountain Man, James Clyman", where Clyman, Samuel Walker, and Robert Walker all received votes for head of the "mess" they were traveling with. That book is invaluable. I found my copy on ebay.
So if I can help anyone I'll be glad to. My main information is all 1844, mostly the Gilliam train.
