Midge,

Since you brought up the Elisha Barnes family, you may be interested to know
that my Marks family is connected.

My GG-grandfather, Bluford Brookins Marks, was brother to Isaac Marks. Isaac
died in Indiana (or was it Illinois?). Isaac's family, including his widow
and children, crossed the Oregon Trail in 1853 as did Bluford and family.

One of Isaac's children was William Marks, an "early arrival" to Wasco (later
Crook) County. He waas father of Ginerva Marks, who married George W.
Barnes, son of Elisha Marks.

I believe it was George W. Barnes who wrote an article in the 1905 History of
Crook County which mentions that Bluford Marks and sons came to the
Prineville area in 1869. The article also states, "Uncle BLUFORD MARKS took up the
place where JOHN CLAYPOOL now lives, and his two boys built the old log cabin
that now stands on that place; it was one that ALEX HODGES took up." Does anyone
know where this place might be?

Incidentally, Isaac's daughter Sarah Jane Marks (sister to William) was
married to Andrew Johnson Chapman, and they also crossed to Oregon in 1853. Les,
is there a Chapman connection here?
