Hi - I was one of those who snapped the heads off of the beautiful daffodills
- Mt. Hood variety if I remember correctly.

This was during the latter part of WWII. The grower would send a bus to
Parkrose High School on Prescott on Sat. and pick up the kids who wanted to work in
the daffodil field. They were always kind enough to let those of us who
wished, take home a bouquet of the daffodils when the day was done. I always split
them between my mother and grandmother who lived next door.

All of that beautiful farmland - the strawberry and raspberry fields, etc.
are paved over now with housing and stores. I hate to see that when I go up
there to visit.

There was a big daffodil far around that area. People were hired to
pull the blooms off so all the strength would go to the bulbs before they
were sold. Simpson's use to have a big nursery between Birdsdale and
Osborne Rd.
