[or-roots] Schmidt Nursery & stationery

It doesn't seem to matter what generation you talk to, they all seem to like remembering the way it was, not the way it became 20, 30, or even 40 years later. Our grandparents bemoaned the fact that growth had taken place to the point it was when we were kids. Or was it just the fact that things had changed? I know I miss certain things that were there when I was younger, and my kids miss things that have changed just since they were kids running around. Change is not necessarily for the better, but it is inevitable.

Just so you know, I enjoy reading about the way it was 'back then'. Keep it up. Genealogy is not just about the things a hundred years ago. It is also about the life and times that took place 40 or 50 years ago as well.

Hi - I was one of those who snapped the heads off of the beautiful daffodills - Mt. Hood variety if I remember correctly.

This was during the latter part of WWII. The grower would send a bus to Parkrose High School on Prescott on Sat. and pick up the kids who wanted to work in the daffodil field. They were always kind enough to let those of us who wished, take home a bouquet of the daffodils when the day was done. I always split them between my mother and grandmother who lived next door.

All of that beautiful farmland - the strawberry and raspberry fields, etc. are paved over now with housing and stores. I hate to see that when I go up there to visit.

There was a big daffodil far around that area. People were hired to
pull the blooms off so all the strength would go to the bulbs before they
were sold. Simpson's use to have a big nursery between Birdsdale and
    Osborne Rd.
