I had already had several year of elementary schooling when I stayed with my grandparents
in Porland, and attended Arleta Grammar School, the fall semester of 1939. I had a
teacher who had taught my mother. In my day, you had to know your math to about
15 x15 and show both sides of your hands
were clean, just to get into class. The only
over memory of the school, was that it was
brick, and there study hall, was an octagonal
faced, glassed in room, with a shedding stuffed owl and National Geographic 1929
issues. In California in '39 we had portables.
Too much sand in the concrete mix, and
brick schools were sunject to the San Andreas fault.

Subject: [or-roots] Mrs. Marker and Foster school
Hi Rooters:
My education began in 1945 at Foster, OR. The teacher for grades 1-3 was Mrs. Marker. She did not drive to school because she lived across the street from the school. (If you look through my web pages you will find a photo of her.)
In 1943 my father bought what was left of the J. Shea homestead from Mr. Marker. Most of that land is now under water created by the Foster Dam Lake. Ouch!
